Affiliate Marketing VS Product Creation As A Way of Earning Money
Earn Money
I read a very interesting thread yesterday, regarding whether you should concentrate your efforts on affiliate marketing or creating your own products, as the best way of earning money. Most folks start out with affiliate marketing because it is (supposedly) the easier of the two methods. But is it?
Okay, so you don’t have to know too much about anything other than ‘how to drive traffic’. Send enough traffic to a good converting sales page and you’re pretty much guaranteed to make some sales.
The trouble is, well, actually there are a few troubles:
Choosing the right product to promote - do you know which products convert best? - Competition - there are literally 1000’s of ’super affiliates’ out there and more moving in every day.
- Commission theft - yes folks, it happens all the time. No matter how hard you try you are always going to find some of your commissions being stolen, and sad to say, often by the product vendor!
- No control - if the vendor decides to take down their product you’re stuffed.
There are others, but I wouldn’t want to scare you too much this early in the day. ![]()
For those of you who think this just applies to the IM niche, think again. How many physical products have you bought that were faulty, didn’t work as described, didn’t look as good as their pretty picture… I’m willing to bet it’s more than a few.
So how about creating your own products? Surely that’s even harder?
Actually, it isn’t. Admittedly I used to think so too. But that’s because if you’re just starting out you see all these great salespages and you think you could never come up with products like that. And you know what? You’re probably right. Neither could the authors of those salespages!
Most of the products out there bear little or no resemblance to what is actually claimed on the sales page. If you’ve bought a few, you probably know I’m telling the truth already. So you need have no fear that you can’t create equally good, if not better products.
What’s stopping you? Seriously, what the heck is stopping you from putting together your very own product? I’m willing to bet more than a few of you use article marketing to drive traffic to your affiliate offers. Why not take all your articles and put them into an e-book? Record them and use the audio/video as an upsell? Why not?
Go On. You know you want to really.
