Really, Google just couldn’t be making it any easier for us all to be social butterflies these days. If she isn’t making an all out effort to convince us all that being social, making friends, spreading good content around the Internet for her to share with her friends, then I don’t know what other possible meanderings could be going on deep in the recesses of her overstuffed data factory.
I am more convinced than ever that Google is a woman. Don’t take this the wrong way guys, but fellas just aren’t as interested in getting down and dirty when it comes to sharing the latest, juiciest gossip.
And isn’t that really what search engines do? You’re looking for a particular piece of information (dirt, gossip, call it what you will), so you head on over to the person with the biggest mouth and the most ‘friends‘ - the search engines. Usually Google, but could be someone else.
Either way, it’s all about connecting people with what they want, providing them the latest and the best (read ‘dirtiest’,
)of the information available.
And social networking is the biggest provider of what we are really up to. How do we use all those social networks? What sort of stuff do we talk about? Which type of people do we hang around with? Music we like, video’s we find funny, stories we read again and again…
All that ‘inside’ gossip, gobbled up in an asbolute feeding frenzy. The search engines are all over it.
And Google is right there helping and encouraging you to share your juiciest gossip with her. Take a look over on the sidebar there. See that cool little ‘Google Friend Connect’ gadget?
Okay, so it’s not about ‘reuniting’ friends so much as it is about uniting them in the first place. But the fact that Google is testing stuff like this, shows you the way the search engines are thinking. I told you about the link between search engine rankings and social networking just a few weeks ago. If you haven’t yet stepped up and realised the importance of this then you need to get off your butt and start!
If you don’t want to listen to me that’s fine. Well, not really, but hey, why should you be any different to my own kids?
After all, I’m in the marketing business and could be lying in the hope to make some money from you.
But what about Matt Cutts?
And ok, it’s only in Beta at the moment, but I advise you to get in there quick, add her gadgets to your site, and invite your friends to join you in dishing the dirt on whatever topic you like.

P.S. I would just like to point out that if anyone has any really juicy gossip they want to share, I’m all ears. And of course, I would never pass it on!
