You know, Google comes in for a lot of flak at times. And while some of it may be justified, overall, I have to say I find the help she gives far outweighs any concerns over her reasons for doing so.
After showing her fondness for social networking with the creation of her very own social friend gadget, she also gives us a top notch guide on optimising your website for search engines. And if being listed at the top of the search engines isn’t good for your reputation, then I don’t know what is.
I just finished reading it and it really is SEO for dummies.
Aimed right slap bang at the newbie who probably hasn’t even heard of SEO, Google’s guide takes you through all the steps that, when added together, make your site not only more optimised for search engines, but a whole lot easier for your visitors and potential visitors to find exactly what they’re looking for.
The thing with SEO is that there isn’t just a single ‘fix’ you can do that will instantly make your site more likely to show up in the search engine results. It’s lots of little things - titles, tags, url structure, descriptions, site navigation…making “the whole greater than the sum of it’s parts".
If you thought SEO was too techie, or if you’ve just never trusted any of the so-called SEO Masters, then go get your information straight from the horse’s mouth. (or Google’s anyway)
Put it to use, and watch not only your traffic increase from all the extra visitors the search engines send your way, but also your reputation as an esteemed authority. You can bet your visitors don’t know diddly about SEO, so the automatic assumption is that you’re listed at the top because you’re the best in your field - not because you’re the one who bothered to implement all the SEO tips.
