You’d have thought that as folks got more savvy, the amount of hype and bullshit that surrounds the ‘make money online’ niche would have lessened somewhat. Yet it only seems to get worse and even more hypey, if that’s possible.
Admittedly, I’ve only been online for a few years so I have no idea how much bullshit was spouted before that time. But I honestly thought the majority of folks searcheing the internet for ways to make money had wised up and so naturally the marketing crowd would have to stand up and take notice by promoting less crap and more solid content.
But alas, it seems I was wrong. Instead, the outrageous claims just get worse. Hands up if you’ve seen the latest offering that will create a fully functioning, highly optimised, money raking website in less than 30 seconds? (Note, I’m not going to give you the address because there is no way I’m taking the risk of you getting suckered into buying it).
You have to hand it to these guys. The sales page is awesome, complete with videos, testimonials, proof… everything in there to guarantee high conversion rates. And a really low price for what it claims to provide.
But of course, the low price is just the starting point. As usual there’s the forced continuity, the upsell, the cross sell, etc. Before you know it, you’re shelling out more money for yet more hype and bullshit.
There are simple, quick, effective ways to make money online. But they all involve the one ingredient that nobody wants to admit to doing - WORK. I don’t give a flying pig’s ear what the guru’s tell you, they are working their business, same as you, me, and every other wannabe internet entrepreneur out there.
Guru’s might be able to pay someone to do the grunt work. But they still have to check that grunt work is being done and being done right.
If you buy into something because of the hype and bullshit, you are heading down a deep dark tunnel that is very hard to get back out of. If you let every online trickster and scam artist convince you that “this time” or “this product” will be different, you are on your way to bankruptcy my friend.
Of course, then you’ll be able to come up with your own hyped up, rags to riches, story that you can use to scam someone else out of their hard earned cash.
And hey, I’m not saying this latest product is a scam. It’s just not what it claims to be. And that’s the thing with hype, it blinds you to what’s real. So, all you have to do is come up with a single keyword? Great, what chance of you picking one that you can actually rank for?
One keyword and an instant website appears targeted around it? No - one keyword and a crappy, automated, full of scraped content, wesite appears.
Search engine friendly? Social media friendly? Bullshit!
No major search engine is going to bother with your site when they already have all the information available from the original sources. And nobody is going to bother sharing your stuff because it’s already been seen a thousand times before.
If you want to learn how NOT to make money, then keep on reading the hype and bullshit out there. On the other hand, if you’re sick of listening to the crap, then get ready to put in some work. Start with the basics and work your way up. It’s a lot quicker and easier than you might think.
